Kinja rolled out the new image hosting service to all the sites. I can't see anything anywhere, except for:
YouTube Thumbnails
"Related" story tumbnails
Twitter embeds
Random, properly sized photos that don't need resizing. (rare)
This blows.
This is what I get for images whenever I open a post. Sure, I can click on "expand," but that's tedious, and not a pleasant way to enjoy a message board.
I have tried everything; posted it !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! before, shared it to Whitenoise, and then to GroupThink !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ......
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I have logged into some of my servers in different facilities in other states, and it's not isolated to my local network. Jagvar was affected until just recently - so I assume his network started letting that URL through. Other than him, I can't seem to find anyone else who is having this issue. Now that it has been rolled out to all the sites, we'll see if that's still the case.
Hopefully they'll open it up before too long. Anything is possible. When I started here, FB and YouTube was blocked.
The URLs aren't even classified as anything particular.
I can be found during the day here. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

At work?

Been working on it for almost four weeks. It's my employer's network.

Yup. I check several times a day to keep up.

How much access do you have to their machines/internet? This sounds like something you could VPN your way around, but I'm betting their own machines are severely locked down.

Nooooo!
Don't go. You're one of the saner ones around here. We need that.

I have remoted to some of my servers in other states, and they still are blocking the new "i.kinja" URLs. It seems to be enterprise wide.
I am but a contractor in a sea of 300K users (both contractor and federal). I can't justify opening a ticket for it, or asking my ISO why I can't look at what you guys are sharing.

At work I'm using IE8 and I cannot login, nor I can see the replies. I think that we two will have to start working...

I contacted Gawker Help about this a couple weeks ago. Steve Climaco said that he would "let the tech team know about the general issue."

I've been talking with Ernie here for about a month about it. (see my "here" link). Not much we can do about it.
I was hoping that thousands of users working on conservative networks would all cry out at once once they started using that service.
Either I'm still the only one who is affected, or everyone else just figures it's a Kinja bug, only to go away tomorrow, then come back, then go away, then come back, repeat.

Can you still see images if you open the thread and expand them? That always worked for me as a backup when I was having the problem.
![]() 01/16/2014 at 15:30 |

Yeah I can do that, since that brings up the original gawkerasset.image URL.
...but that's so 1998 internet. Not very convenient. Besides, images in replies don't display at all. :(

I can currently see the i.kinja-img images. I couldn't see them for a week or two, but they started working again this week. I'm on a DoD network and was getting a different warning. Mine said, "Domain has unusually high traffic volume for a very recent registration. Domain reported and verified as serving malware. Identified as a malicious site via network activity logged during malware analysis."

Can you remote desktop into your home PC?

This is good info. Where were you receiving this message? Through your web filter/firewall? If it's a specific service that was giving you that message, the name of the service would be helpful.

The firewall gave the message. My machine is running McAfee Host Intrusion Prevention and Symantec Endpoint Protection, but the filtering could very well be handled by something else upstream.

btw McM can you link me to some of the random, properly sized photos that don't need resizing? I want to see what's up with those too.

VOX, we're no longer supporting IE8. Can you upgrade or get a different browser at work?

Ernie,
I went back through several pages of Oppo, and found one.

Thumbnail URL:
Here
-Image URL (after opening post) is same as thumbnail URL.

Gotcha. Sometimes, the images fail to pass through processing and the original link is used instead, that's why those are visible to you.

I'll try to use Firefox portable, installed in a USB flash drive. Got it installed now, and I'll make the test next monday, just for the sake of it. And thank you for your reply!
